About
One person, one box, the photos back in the family.
Out of the Attic turns the shoebox, the slide tray, and the album in the closet into files you can put on a phone, share at a reunion, or keep somewhere safer than an attic. The shop is in La Cygne, Kansas. Email us. This is a small shop, not a counter in a big building.
The short version
Family photos and film — out of the attic, onto your phone. Drop off locally around La Cygne and Linn County, or mail a box from anywhere in the US. Your originals come home.
The tone is the hardware store, not a brochure. If something looks fragile, we will say so before it goes on the bench. If a job is outside what the shop can do well today, we will say that too.
Questions neighbors ask
What do you digitize?
Loose prints, album pages, 35mm slides, and 35mm negatives. Basic cleanup is included. We do not sell reprints — if you want new paper prints, a local store or an online lab is the right next stop.
Do my originals come back?
Yes. Your originals come home. Local orders are handed back with the files. Mail-in orders are packed back into their containers and returned with tracking.
How long does it take?
Standard turnaround is about 2–3 weeks after we have the photos. Rush is +50% (minimum $20) and aims for about 3–4 business days when the calendar allows, for orders under 500 items.
Where are you?
The shop is in La Cygne, Kansas, serving Linn County and nearby towns. Drop-offs are by appointment after you pay. The mail-in ship-to is on the mail-in page. Anyone in the US can mail a box.
What is the minimum?
Local orders start at $35. Mail-in orders start at $75 before shipping. Shoebox Starter is $95 for up to 250 loose prints.
How do I pay?
On checkout, before you mail the box or drop it off. Work starts only after that payment. You ship it to us (you pay outbound). We ship originals back (we pay return). The first 5 digital album folders are free; each one after that is $2. If the count is higher when the box is opened, you approve the new number before more work.
How long does the download link last?
Thirty days. Please download your copies. A USB drive is $12 if you want a physical backup in the same box as the photos.
What if the count is different from my guess?
You get the new number in writing, and extra work waits until you approve it. If you decline a mail-in order after the count, a $15 inventory fee covers the unpacking and repacking. We still pay to ship the originals back.
Can you do home movies or VHS?
Not yet, and they are not on the menu. Please do not mail reels or tapes. If you have them, say so in a note and we will keep you in mind for later. We also do not take on heavy restoration that rebuilds faces or colorizes a picture.
Will you post my family’s photos?
No. Client photos are never shared unless you give written permission. Samples on a future flyer would come from the shop’s own family pictures, or from a customer who said yes.
